Friday. This day always brings a smile to my face. Such is the effect of Friday to me that at one time, I wished that everyday could be a Friday. Until I realized how stupid that would be. I guess it would be better if days would just be Fridays and Saturdays. That would be cool. With Friday comes the anticipation, then with Saturday the actual non-working day and then back to anticipation and so on and so forth. But of course that would just be the stuff of dreams. We’re currently stuck in a 5-day work week/8 hrs. a day scenario. And whoever designed that scenario must have owned most of the companies on earth or an extremely hardcore workaholic. Well, I’m now ranting so I’ve gotta stop. I don’t want to ruin this moment. This fun, Friday moment. As they say, carpe diem. Friday comes fast. But Monday comes faster.
The Unit
April 23, 2008The Unit is truly an enjoyable series. Here’s the description from Wikipedia:
The Unit is an American action-drama television series that focuses on a top-secret military unit modeled after the real life Delta Force. The program features both the domestic lives of the team members and their missions abroad, in addition to the effect their careers have on their home lives, wives and girlfriends.
For those who are fans of team-based FPS games and team-based action, this is the series for you. There’s a new mission every episode and it usually takes place in another country. The interaction between the team members is great and unlike other shows, the lives of their wives are shown which makes the characters more human.
BTW, the series stars David Palmer, I mean Dennis Haysbert, as Sgt. Maj. Jonas Blane and T-1000 himself, Robert Patrick, as Colonel Thomas Ryan.
Have You Noticed… #1
April 23, 2008
… that even when the Up Arrow is already lighted in an elevator, the person who just arrived in the elevator lobby will push it again. Hmm, will that speed up the arrival of the elevator?
BTW, isn’t it wrong to call an elevator an elevator when it’s going down? Same with the escalator. Their names are only right when they’re elevating you or escalating you to a higher plane.
The Ultimate Delivery Service
April 23, 2008I’m in McDo eating their oh-so-awesome chicken nuggets and at the same time trying to eat their oh-so-crappy spaghetti. It got me wishing that I’m eating Jollibee’s spaghetti instead.
Will the day finally come when this could happen? Imagine ordering from a fictitious deliver company which we shall call, let’s say, The Ultimate Delivery Service, and ordering a 2-pc chicken combo: one ChickenJoy and the other an original KFC chicken. That would really be the ultimate combo. Or let’s say, a Champ, McDo fries and a Wendy’s shake. Or ordering a pizza combo: half of which is Pizza Hut’s Pan Pizza and the other half, a thin crust Shakey’s Pizza.
Just the stuff of dreams, it seems like it. But you never know… Now, if only I could finish this spaghetti.
Sighted Quotes
April 22, 2008Sighted on a wall in the former Shell Maya location, soon to be a luxury condo:
Success is a state of mind, you not only have to be in that state but you have to live there
Shouldn’t this say Success is not just a state of mind?
Jack of all Media
April 21, 2008I’ve just finished watching 88 Minutes starring Al Pacino when an epiphany hit me. Al Pacino’s character is named Jack Gramm. Jack? Again? Now I’ve realized that there ARE a lot of Jacks in movies and TV series. So I began to recall them. Here they are. Maybe you could add some more Jacks:
- Jack Bauer (24)
- Jack Shephard (Lost)
- Jack Ryan (Tom Clancy Novels & Movies)
- Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Carribean)
- Jack Stanfield (Firewall starring Harrison Ford)
- Jack Skellington (The Nightmare Before Christmas)
- Jack Carver (Far Cry PC Game)
- Jack Slate (Dead to Rights PS2 Game)
Can’t think of any others but I’ll add more once I remember them.
Jeepney Annoyances #5 – Bobbleheads
April 21, 2008
It’s bound to happen… sooner or later. You come home late one night, then suddenly a bobblehead sits beside you. These bobbleheads come in two flavors: the drunk and the sleepy. The drunk bobblehead is more potent since aside from the bobbling you get a free sniff of whatever he drank last for each bobble. But for the sleepy bobblehead you get the occassional snore. But they have one thing in common, they’re both annoying.
Each time the jeepney stops, these bobbleheads tend to bang your arm or the arm of the poor fellow sitting on his other side. And they tend to linger around, so this banging will go on for the whole trip.
Jeepney Annoyances #3 & #4
April 19, 2008
Imagine the scenario. You’re tired after waiting for an eternity for a jeepney to arrive. Then an almost full jeepney arrived. Now you’ve felt some hope. Then you get on the jeepney. The passengers then instantaneously move as one to free up a space for you. How touching! Until you see the location of the space they’ve freed up. It’s the one near the driver!!!
You would be lucky if the jeepney is not too long, otherwise you would have to walk like a hunchback while wading across a lake of knees to get to your provided location.
Which brings me to another jeepney annoyance: Can they make the roof of the jeepney a little higher so you could walk in and out without getting a backache?
Happy weekend to everyone!
Stupid Mistake
April 17, 2008I was at McDo and was about to eat burger and fries. Of course, I have to do the right thing and wash my hands. So I hurried to the nearest wash area, splashed liquid soap all over my hands and rubbed them to a good lather then turned on the sink. To my horror, there was no water. My hands are full and soap and there was no water. To my relief there was a nearby area with another faucet that was used for washing mops. There I washed my hands. From that day onwards, I check faucets in advance before soaping my hands.
Passenger Tips #1
April 15, 2008Have you noticed the excitement that happens after the passengers embarked on a jeepney? Everyone seems to be happy to pay in advance. Poor driver. The sad effect of this is that some passenger’s sukli will inevitably be forgotten to the ire of that said passenger who will get angry at the driver for forgetting it but is entirely not the driver’s fault.
To prevent this situation, it’s better to let the hoopla die, and pay when everyone seems to have paid already. In that way, you’re ensuring that your sukli will not be forgotten by the driver.
Web Site for Book Lovers
April 11, 2008I was just googling for some book covers to be used for my blog when I stumbled upon this super-cool Web site: http://www.librarything.com
I’m obssessed with organizing and cataloguing my book collection into an Excel spreadsheet. So far I was only able to manage some of my recent books. So imagine my joy when I discovered LibraryThing. Not only can I organize and catalogue my books online, I can also view my collection as a List of Covers instead of a boring spreadsheet like what I’m doing.
Check this screenshot! I’m now officially addicted to LibraryThing…

Jeepney Annoyances #2 – Barkers
April 10, 2008
Standing proud and mighty is he, in front of a queue of jeepneys. An epitome of confidence and smug. Shouting orders to embarking passengers. Some even stomping the sides of the jeepney for emphasis. Always shouting that there’s still room for 1 or 2 more since the jeep is “siyaman” even though it’s already full to the brim. We, the poor passengers, will then have to squeeze our butts to half its size to accomodate those. Then as our jeepney left, the barker repeats all of the above to the next jeepney in line. Now, you gotta ask, do we really need those barkers?
Jeepney Annoyances #1 – Sudden Gas Stops
April 9, 2008
Don’t you just hate it when you’re running late and the jeepney suddently turns to a gas station and leisurely have its pump filled up? That’s what seems to always happen to me when I’m running late… I guess it’s an extension of that ubiquitous Murphy’s law.
Messiah Complex – A Letdown
April 9, 2008
After completing the so-called next big X-Men crossover Messiah Complex, I was completely underwhelmed. They just have to do the very predictable plot of killing a major character, which in comics usually means that this character will be resurrected again after some issues. And I don’t like the art and the battle scenes look convoluted.
I miss the good old X-Men days when Chris Claremont was writing and Jim Lee or Marc Silvestri were doing the arts. I miss the good old X-Men team dynamics. Now there are just too many characters that will make returning readers feel out of place.
I love to love the X-Men again and hopefully that will happen again soon…
Clever T-Shirt Line
April 8, 2008Saw this quote in a t-shirt while riding the LRT this morning:
I have a photographic memory but it was never developed
Foundation – Best. SF. Ever.
April 6, 2008
I’ve just completed Isaac Asimov’s Foundation and I was really impressed. I have, for a long time, wanted to read the Foundation books and finally I was able to do it. I really liked Asimov’s writing style, it’s fast-paced with no sacrifice to detail and the plot progression flows smoothly. Truly an epic. It inspired me to be an SF writer. Although I have the 4th book, Foundation’s Edge, I’m still looking for the 2nd and 3rd.
Wrestlemania XXIV – Great Show!
April 3, 2008
This has got to be one of the best stage set for a Wrestlemania ever! And I mean e-e-e-ver!!! I think I’ve been watching too much WWE. Anyway, I was there since the first Wrestlemania. Ever since IBC 13, with its notorious 6-month delayed show — WWF Superstars, decided to show the 1st ever Wrestlemania on TV (good thing our trusty Betamax was hooked up), I was completely into it!
And now 24 years later, me, my brother and cousins are still fans. So far WMXXIV is the best! Highlights of the night for me are: HBK vs. Ric Flair in a Career Threatening Match, Floyd Mayweather vs. Big Show and the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. For me, the Triple Threat Match between Triple H, Cena and Orton had a lousy ending. Same goes for Undertaker vs. Edge. I don’t think Edge is a main-eventer yet.
But anyways, overall the show is great. The stage and ring sets were awesome. And those grand fireworks — Wow! All these will make you wanna shout ala-Ric Flair, “Whoooooooooo”!!!
